Aussie gamers can expect a new console to arrive in Australia in early 2018.
Microsoft’s new console, the Xbox One S, will be unveiled on April 1 at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, with a full launch expected at the end of the year.
Microsoft announced that it would bring Xbox One to Australia on July 20, which is when it was supposed to arrive, but delays and other technical issues have delayed the launch.
Microsoft Australia managing director Alex Miller has been working with Microsoft to ensure that the new console arrives on schedule.
According to Microsoft Australia, the launch will coincide with the release of a digital version of Windows 10.
Windows 10 is a new version of Microsoft’s operating system that will be installed on all Xbox One consoles, and will provide users with a unified interface and much more control over their entertainment experiences.
“We know the launch of Xbox One is going to be a huge moment in the Australian gaming industry, so we’re thrilled to be bringing the next generation of Xbox to Australians with the latest version of the Windows 10 OS,” said Miller in a statement.
“The new OS and all its innovations will be a game changer for gamers and for our communities.
We look forward to welcoming the next wave of Xbox fans to our shores.”
Australian gaming is expected to be one of the main reasons why Microsoft has decided to bring its console to Australia.
Microsoft already has games on sale in the country, but the launch comes as a new game console comes on the market.
While it is not expected to hit Australian shores until later this year, Australia has been a key market for Microsoft as the Xbox brand has a strong presence in the home market.
Australia is also one of Microsofts largest markets globally, with Xbox One having over one billion users globally, according to data from NPD Group.
