NEW YORK — A 3-digit number from a Walmart store in New York has raised questions about a company’s business model, digital camera sales and digital marketing company.
Walmart spokesman Dan Stessel said the company is aware of the incident and is working to understand the issue.
Stessel said in a statement the company has been working with law enforcement to determine the source of the data.
“We are taking the issue seriously and are working with state and local law enforcement,” Stessel wrote.
The 3 digit was used by a security guard at the Walmart in Brooklyn and was stolen from the security camera, Stessel added.
Walmart has a strong commitment to privacy and security, the company said in its statement.
As part of its effort to make its digital marketing platform more secure, Walmart introduced a security system last year to make it easier for people to protect their privacy and data.
WalMart has said it has not been involved in any security breaches.
Digital camera maker Logitech Corp. said in August that hackers had stolen the company’s data from a company that sells its camera.
It was not immediately clear whether the theft had affected the company.
